Platform-specific verification
Alibaba Supplier Verification
Quick answer
Alibaba supplier verification means establishing which registered Chinese legal entity actually operates the storefront, then checking that entity — not the storefront — against public records and your payment documents. It is the same Supplier Verification Report at the same starting price of US$199, applied to the specific ways platform identities and registered identities come apart. Platform badges are a starting point, not a conclusion: they describe platform status, never your specific transaction.
- Turnaround
- 2–3 business days
- You receive
- English PDF report
Fixed buyer-paid fees only. We take no commissions or kickbacks from the supplier being reviewed.
Who this service is for
For buyers whose entire knowledge of a supplier is an Alibaba storefront, its badges and a chat history.
- Buyers about to move from Alibaba chat to a proforma invoice
- Buyers asked to pay outside Alibaba Trade Assurance
- Buyers whose storefront, PI and bank names do not match
- FBA and DTC sellers comparing two or three shortlisted Alibaba suppliers
- Buyers whose supplier claims to be a manufacturer on the platform
When buyers order this
The PI arrived and the company name is new to you
The storefront says "Shenzhen XYZ Technology" and the invoice says a name you have never seen. Before paying, you need to know whether the invoicing entity is related, and what the registry says about it.
You were asked to pay outside the platform
Off-platform payment removes the Trade Assurance dispute route. Sometimes the request is ordinary fee avoidance; sometimes it is the tell. Independent verification of the receiving entity is how you price that risk.
The badges look reassuring and you want to know what they actually mean
Verified Supplier, Gold Supplier, years on platform, response rate — each measures something, none measures what buyers assume. We check what the badges cannot.
Two suppliers, similar quotes, one order
Registry records are one of the few genuinely comparable data points between two Alibaba suppliers: age, capital, scope, adverse records, identity consistency.

What we check that the platform does not show
Alibaba shows you what suppliers publish and what the platform's own programs have assessed. We check the layer underneath: the registered company, its records, and whether the identity you would be paying matches the identity you have been talking to.
- The registered legal entity behind the storefront, via business-license details
- Storefront trading name vs registered Chinese name vs PI name vs bank beneficiary
- Registration status, age, capital and scope of the actual entity
- Abnormal-operation and public enforcement records for that entity
- Manufacturing claims vs registered business scope and address type
- Profile age vs company age
- The supplier’s off-platform identity: website, domain, email, phone

Limitations
Platform ecosystems change, and no documentary check settles every question an Alibaba transaction raises.
Read this before ordering
- We do not have access to Alibaba’s internal assessment files; we report what badges publicly represent.
- Trade Assurance terms are the platform’s own and can change; read the current terms for your order.
- A storefront can be operated under authorization by a party other than the registered company; where we cannot resolve the operator, we say so.
- Documentary manufacturing indicators are not conclusive — a live visit is the direct test.
- This review does not assess product quality, and it is not advice to use or avoid any platform.
What Alibaba badges do and do not tell you
Each badge measures something real. The risk is in the gap between what it measures and what a buyer under time pressure reads into it.
Verified Supplier
A third party engaged by the platform performed an assessment with a defined, limited scope — often of the company profile and certain claimed capabilities, at a point in time.
It is not an audit of your order, a solvency check, or a statement about current conditions.
Gold Supplier
A paid membership tier. It signals investment in the platform presence.
It is not an assessment of anything, and longevity of membership is not a quality measure.
Years on platform
How long the storefront account has existed.
It is not the age of the legal entity — companies migrate, rebrand and buy established storefronts.
Trade Assurance
A platform-mediated protection covering certain order and payment disputes when you pay through the platform, under the platform’s current terms.
It is not escrow in the full sense, does not cover off-platform payment, and has claim conditions that must be read, not assumed.
What to collect from the supplier before ordering verification
You do not need all of these — the storefront link alone is enough to start — but each document you can add makes the identity comparison stronger.
- The storefront URL
- The supplier’s stated Chinese company name (ask for it in Chinese characters)
- A copy or photo of their business license, if they will share it
- The quotation and proforma invoice
- The bank details they want payment sent to
- The claimed factory address
- Any certificates they have offered as evidence
A supplier’s reaction to being asked for the license and the Chinese legal name is itself informative. Cooperative suppliers handle it routinely.
Example findings
Patterns specific to Alibaba transactions. These are illustrative patterns drawn from the categories we review — not excerpts from real client reports.
“Storefront, PI and bank beneficiary are three different names in two jurisdictions.”
The single most common Alibaba finding. Sometimes a normal group structure — mainland factory, Hong Kong billing entity — and sometimes not resolvable from records at all. The report maps what connects and what does not.
“The “manufacturer” storefront maps to an entity whose scope is wholesale and import-export only.”
A trading company presenting as a factory. Not necessarily a reason to walk away — but the price, MOQ and quality-control conversation should be had with that fact on the table.
“Payment was requested to a personal account “to save bank fees”.”
A significant risk signal: the payment would sit against an individual, not the company on your documents, and outside any platform protection. The report flags it at an elevated level and gives you the exact questions to ask.
“The storefront is four years old; the current legal entity was registered last year.”
Entity churn behind a stable storefront. There are benign explanations — restructuring is common — but your contract and payment only reach the current entity, so its record is the one that matters.

Frequently asked questions
Does a Verified Supplier or Gold Supplier badge mean the factory was checked?
Not in the way most buyers assume. Those badges reflect a platform membership or a platform-arranged assessment with a defined and limited scope, and they say nothing about your specific order, your payment terms or current conditions at the site. A badge is a reason to look further, not a substitute for looking.
The Alibaba store name is different from the name on my PI. Is that a scam?
Not necessarily, but it must be explained before you pay. A storefront usually carries an English trading name while the proforma invoice carries a registered legal entity, and they can legitimately differ. What matters is whether the invoicing entity is a related party you can identify in the registry, and whether the bank beneficiary matches that same entity.
The supplier asked me to pay outside Trade Assurance. What does that mean?
It means you lose the platform-mediated dispute route that Trade Assurance provides, and you should understand exactly why you are being asked. There are ordinary reasons — an order structure the platform does not fit, or fee avoidance — and there are serious ones. Either way, a request to move payment off-platform is a point at which independent verification of the receiving entity becomes considerably more valuable.
Can you tell whether an Alibaba supplier is the manufacturer?
We can compare the manufacturing claim on the profile against the registered business scope, the registered address type and other documentary indicators, and report where they conflict. Where the claim is central to your decision, a live visit to the stated production address is the direct test.
The account is only a few months old. Is that a red flag?
Profile age and company age are different measurements and both are worth knowing. A new profile on an established company is ordinary; a new profile on a company registered weeks ago, quoting aggressively on a high-value order, is a materially different picture. We report both dates so you can see which situation you are in.
